Simon brings an incredibly insightful and contemporary view to organisational and personal performance. He seamlessly translates his extensive experience in Sports Psychology into performance improvement/development strategies for businesses and individuals. He has a great coaching style that yields results and delivers a complex yet powerful concept in a down to earth and practical way.June 15, 2011, Julia was Simon's client
Simon has an ability to design and facilitate highly constructive and productive meetings that enable all particpants to learn more about themselves and the dynamic of their team. He knows when to be quiet and when to interject. He strikes a balance between teaching and encouraging self discovery through debate and practical "hands on" application of the theories. He has a laser like focus on what it takes to be world class and challenges people hard on their real commitment to, and strategy for, excellence. He makes it fun and drives real behavioural change and I would recommend him highly to any senior team.June 18, 2013, Nigel was Simon's client
We got to know Simon through his Be Word Class conferences, which many of our managers attended and found to be hugely inspiring. The quality of the content that Simon draws out of each speaker is brilliant and all who attended came away with much that they could apply to both to their work and personal lives.
Simon recently joined us at our bi-annual Managers Conference at The Sage Gateshead, where he delivered a fantastic presentation about what it takes to be world class. His relaxed presentation style and expertise on his subject went down really well with all of us. I was also lucky enough to be given a copy of Simon's book which offers some fascinating insights and is easy to read - I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone.
COMPETITIVE advantage is priceless. Every business in every sector understands the need to differentiate. The good businesses both understand the need but also have the desire to differentiate. The very best businesses actually do differentiate: they understand the need, they have the desire and are then able to turn both into something tangible, something different – in many cases something truly world class.
That is where our relationship with Simon Hartley and Be World Class first started.
We have always tried to be different. We don’t like standing still. We are not change junkies, but we do believe that inertia is one of the biggest threats to any business. That is why we work very hard at understanding what will set our business apart, how we can achieve a competitive advantage and then delivering the necessary changes. It is not easy. In fact, as businesses become more and more complex it becomes increasingly difficult.
Quite often the hardest thing to do is to stand back and look at things differently, through the eyes of someone else. Our journey didn’t start with the desire to be world class. It started with a fascination with what it takes to become world class and how we could apply that to what we do. What do world-class performers have in common? Could we understand, unpick, apply to our business and convey to our people what makes others world class, and if we did that what difference would it make? Drawing an analogy between a law firm and a world-class athlete (in our case a swimmer) is not easy. Surely our business is far more complicated than just swimming two lengths of a pool as fast as you can? The discussions were fascinating and the debates challenging, but most importantly the outcomes were really very positive.
The reality, for us, is that world- class performers keep it simple: clear and unerring focus on what they want to achieve, with everything in place to give them the best chance of succeeding. Of course, there is a lot more to it than that – innate talent and pure hard work to start with – but the reality is that without a single- minded approach to a clearly defined objective, talent and hard work will be compromised. And so the journey began. A journey towards being a world-class business, who knows? A journey that will see us adopt, adapt and apply the principles that make world-class performers truly great – absolutely!
“I have been a long-time admirer of Simon and the work he does ensuring that individuals realise their full potential. He has a very clear and professional manner that relaxes people, ultimately allowing them to absorb his words of wisdom! Unlike a lot of coaches who simply leave and pop you the invoice – Simon condenses your session into a document that allows you to reflect and action your main discussion points, something that is very helpful. I would highly recommend Simon and will continue to use his services within my business and with my clients
I have used Simon a lot over the last year and there is a real change in our business - we are getting more focused, there is greater clarity. Be warned though, this stuff is like Marmite - you either love it or hate it. If you can see that the same techniques that create great sports teams can help your business then Simon is the best. Like sport - the techniques are simple in concept, but require practice to get a good result. Simon is a good mentor & coach. Great unless you don't like Marmite.
Simon believes in finding and liberating that something special in people, that something which enables them to reach peak performance and become truly world class. He is a superb performance coach who is constantly searching for better ways to help and challenge both sports and business people to reach their dreams.June 11, 2012, Richard was Simon's client
